How to Use Facebook Live for Your Direct Selling Business and Not be Annoying.

Facebook Live launched to the public in April 2016. Since then, its popularity has grown exponentially. In other words, almost everybody’s using it!

What is Facebook Live? According to Forbes, “Facebook Live is a basic feature that offers live-streaming video capabilities to users. By tapping the live stream icon, you can start broadcasting video live from your smartphone, and write an optional description for the event.”

Facebook Live is not a one-way communication with your audience. People can react and comment during a live presentation, and you can answer their questions and react to their comments. Basically, you can stream live events on Facebook while your viewers participate from all over the world.

How do I get started?

There are plenty of tutorials, videos, and blog posts on how to use Facebook live, so let’s keep it short and sweet. First, click Live Video at the top of your News Feed. Next, write something interesting about your live video. Finally, click Go Live.

It really is that simple. You can use your mobile device with the Facebook app to record anywhere, any time. You can also broadcast with your desktop from your Facebook group business page.

Facebook Live Strategies to Improve your Broadcast Experience

Now that you know how to broadcast using Facebook Live, here are some strategies that will help you reach more people. According to Facebook, these eight tips and tricks will make you more successful when using Facebook Live for your MLM business:

  • Tell fans when you're broadcasting ahead of time.
  • Go live when you have a strong connection.
  • Write a catchy description before going live.
  • Ask viewers to subscribe to Live notifications.
  • Say hello to commenters by name; respond to their comments live.
  • Broadcast for longer periods of time to reach more people.
  • Use a closing line to signal the end of the broadcast.
  • Be creative and go live often!

We love the last tip; however, when using Facebook Live for your business, the advice to “go live often” needs to be more strategic than posting a video just for the sake of posting a video. Let’s say you have a friend in the direct sales industry who decides that Facebook Live is the way to get into the hearts and minds of her downline and to recruit friends to the business. So, she starts going live as often as possible. After 4 or 5 Facebook Live posts a day, you’re likely to hide her from your newsfeed. What starts out as a marketing tool can turn into good, old-fashioned Facebook spam.

One strategy to “go live often” without annoying your friends is to post live videos on your Facebook group business page. Broadcasting from your group page allows you to focus on the people that will benefit the most. People usually like and follow groups that interest them. If you don’t have a Facebook group page, get one! Your Facebook group could be geared towards reviews of your products, training, introducing new members, business ideas, etc. From your group, you can then do as many Facebook Live posts as you want and they are geared towards a captive audience.

Now, we’re not advocating that you never post live video to your personal timeline. There are times you’ll want to share an event with everyone to recruit distributors to your MLM business and to share product information with potential customers. Decide who your audience is before you go live and broadcast in the best place to reach the right people.

Happy Facebooking!

Facebook Live is a great tool for reaching your downline on social media. There are other social media apps that can also be effective. We’ll discuss those in future blog posts.
